Overview

The SpaceX API (api.spacexdata.com) was the community-maintained source for SpaceX data — launches, rockets, capsules, ships, landing pads, company info, and launchpads — used by countless launch-tracker apps and dashboards.

⚠️ Status (verified 2026-08): the API was unreachable from our network — requests to api.spacexdata.com/v5/launches/latest returned a persistent HTTP 525 (Cloudflare SSL handshake error). This may reflect the service status, but it could also be affected by network/environment factors — please verify from your own network before relying on it.

What it used to provide

  • Latest launch: GET /v5/launches/latest
  • All launches: GET /v5/launches (v5 = latest schema; v4 = older)
  • Rockets: GET /v5/rockets
  • Company info: GET /v4/company
  • Roadster, ships, landing pads, capsules, payloads, crew…

Alternatives

  • The Space Devs Launch Library 2 (listed on this site) — maintained, keyless, covers launches from many providers including SpaceX.
  • The spacex-2 listing on this site points to a GraphQL mirror (api.spacex.land) — also unreliable (301s as of 2026-08).

FAQ

Is the SpaceX API still working? As of 2026-08 it returns HTTP 525 — treat it as unreachable until re-verified.

Was it free? Yes — it was free and keyless.

What should I use instead? Launch Library 2 (also on this site) for maintained launch data.
